Math Unit 3 – Geometric Reasoning

We have started our next unit in Math. It is estimated to take 3 to 4 weeks to complete.  It is Unit 3 Geometric Reasoning. It is divided into 2 parts. Part A is on measuring and the use of units.  The main learning outcomes are:

  1. Use appropriate metric units to estimate and measure length, mass, and capacity.
  2. Solve problems that involve converting larger metric units into smaller ones, and describe the base ten relationships among metric units.

Part B is on geometric shapes and angles. The main learning outcomes are”

  1. Compare angles and determine their relative size using non-standard units.
  2. Use benchmark angles to estimate the size of an angle.
  3. Use a protractor to measure and construct angles up to 180°.
  4. Identify geometric properties of triangles, and construct different types of triangles when given side or angle measurements.
  5. Identify and construct congruent triangles, rectangles, and parallelograms.
  6. Draw top, front, and side views of objects, and match drawings with objects.
